Families Preparing the New Generation
Reformatting an 8-workshop parenting curriculum into one consistent, color-coded template system.
The original curriculum had been built one workshop at a time over several years. Each of the eight sessions used its own headings, spacing, and structure — so the material read like eight separate documents rather than one program.
The brief was to design a single repeatable template: a system any facilitator could open and immediately understand, regardless of which workshop they were running that week.
Crucially, these sessions are often led by community facilitators — parents and volunteers, not professional trainers. The design had to let someone run session one confidently the first time they picked it up.
One system, two audiences, eight topics.
The Facilitator Guide needs operational precision. A facilitator running a strict two-hour session has to see exact timing, required materials, and slide cues at a glance — with zero ambiguity about what happens next.
The Parent Workbook needs the opposite energy: warmth and plain language. Parents fill it out themselves, often on sensitive topics, so it has to feel approachable rather than clinical.

One more constraint shaped every decision: the materials get photocopied in black-and-white in the field. Color could organize the system, but it could never be the only thing carrying meaning — hierarchy had to survive a grayscale copier.
Each workshop gets its own color, carried through headers, callouts, and tabs like the dividers in a binder. Facilitators learn the system once and can navigate by color from then on.

Every facilitator now gets the same experience no matter which workshop they open. The color, the breadcrumb, and the timing pill orient them in seconds — so their attention stays on the families in the room instead of on decoding the document.
